Felipe Massa provided the man who saved his life with special behind-the-scenes access at Ferrari on Saturday.
Professor Robert Veres, who operated on Massa after his near-fatal accident in qualifying for last year's Hungarian Grand Prix, was allowed to watch Friday's session from the Ferrari garage.
"Last year everything happened in qualifying," said Massa, who sustained a fractured skull after being struck over the left eye by a spring that had broken off Rubens Barrichello's then Brawn GP car. "So to finish the qualifying here this year is a great feeling because things could have been much worse."
He added: "We are here, I'm healthy, which is the most important thing.
"During the qualifying I didn't think about the accident. I was just thinking about the finish.
"But then afterwards I realised it's a great feeling, seeing all the guys, including the doctor who did my operation. I was very pleased to have him here with me.
"He watched qualifying in the garage, and when I saw him, it was something so nice, so incredible, just like when I saw the people at the hospital here at the track who helped me.
"When I drive through the corner where I had the accident I don't care, but when I saw these people, that's what I care about."
