ImageThe Spaniard, after the 3rd place finish in Monza: "I maximized the potential. It's an important result for me and the team. Here the fans really give you everything." Domenicali: "Fernando was amazing, now we have to give him a better car." Massa: "Shame I was stopped by Webber"

Fernando Alonso finished on the lowest step of the podium in Monza at the Italian Grand Prix. However, it was important for Ferrari considering their current prospects. Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari's team principal, stated on the spur at the end of the race: "I must say that the performance of Red Bull was superior. We took risks against McLaren, and Fernando did well to defend himself. I'm sorry for Felipe, who could have finished among the first if he hadn't been knocked out at the beginning. Alonso? An extraordinary start, and now we must work hard to give him an even better car."

Vettel thrilled — The winner Vettel was also excited: "Monza is special for me. I won my first grand prix here and after my arrival it came to mind. The start wasn't the greatest for me. There were three of us side by side at the first corner. I didn't have much space, but Fernando made a great pass. This is a special victory for us and also for the fans, seeing how it's the 150th anniversary of Italy's unification. Was the choice of the gears a gamble? No, we were pretty certain of the result. We were fast and it's an important win for Red Bull."

Button divertito — Second place finisher Button, of McLaren, also had something to smile about: "It was a fun race in the fight with Hamilton, Alonso and Schumacher. I was too far away to think of winning, but it was a lovely race on a track where the atmosphere is always fantastic."

Alonso fighter — Third place finisher Alonso reached the objectives set by Ferrari: "It was a fantastic start. Here in Monza we knew that if the car performed well then there would be the space to pull ahead at the start. I completely took advantage of the potential for the start, then I led the race for a few laps but we weren't competitive enough to hold the lead. I was looking for a place on the podium and I found it by nosing out Lewis, but it's great. Here in Monza there's a true passion, the fans give you everything they have and for us it's wonderful. The team also had a lot of pressure and therefore to finish on the podium is a great result."

Massa halted — Massa was bitter about 6th place, due to the collision with Webber that slowed him down: "I had problems with Webber, who crashed into me, then I lost position and time. I came back and it was hard. It could have been a race that saw me battling with the others up front. A shame. My car handled well and my only problem in the race was the collision with Webber that held me back."
